Sir,
I am a librarian and IT instructor in a aided school. The last four years i am working as a librarian in a village library affilaliated to lib.counsil. 3 years ago with the help of counsil we purchased a lib.software ‘LIBMIS’ created by a kozhikode firm. they have options in malayalam in cataloguing. the cost is 12500. we entered all data but accidently system damaged and all data lost. I wondering that why Lib.counsil appointing local software companies in different districts to made such things. There is no unanimous move to its filed.
your attempt is a good move.
kindly inform me how to get it.
thanks,
VJ
It is the first time I’m hearing about LIBMIS. Since it is capable of processing Malayalam script it may be better than library management softwares like LIBSYS which costs nearly Rs. 5 lakhs
It is really painful to loose that much data. One reason for the break down of the machine may be the operating system. I earnestly believe that it should be MS Windows! It it were Linux the security of data would have been high and the possibility of recovery almost 100%. That is why meeraLMS is in Linux.
There are a lot of things to be considered and followed while a library management software is installed and practised, whether the package is big or small. I’m very much cautious about just downloading and installing MeeraLMS. It won’t do any thing good and qualitatively different than installing any other packages. I’m writing about it . Soon it will be posted.
We are planning to conduct an introductory workshop in December. Though it is small and very handy, without proper introduction to library practices MeeraLMS, I’m afraid, can not be implemented in a fruitful way.
Hope you are doing fine. I read about meeralms in Desabhimani daily recently. Congratulation for your hard work and good results. I would like to install it in my Library . We have few Malayalam Books. How’s our Digital Library Project running? when can we launch? Hope everything is going on well.
